Planned Giving
Bequests are a wonderful way to support Maitri and may provide estate tax benefits. A bequest may enable you to make a larger gift than you thought possible. There are different ways your estate can support Maitri:

• Designate a specific gift to Maitri (such as property or a specific dollar amount)
• Leave a percentage of your estate to Maitri
• After your estate has provided for your loved ones, leave all or part of the remainder of your estate to Maitri

Bequests may also be made in honor or memory of a loved one. In addition to cash and securities, bequests may include real estate, works of art, or virtually anything of value. All bequests are exempt from federal estate taxation.

Why Give to Maitri

A gift to Maitri is an investment in an important community resource. All gifts to Maitri go directly to support the following six components of our model residential care program for people living with AIDS:

1. Nursing & attendant care
2. Comfortable accommodations
3. Food & nutrition
4. Social work case management
5. Resident activities
6. Volunteer programs

• Maitri is the only AIDS-specific residential care facility in the Bay Area focusing on the underserved community of those dying of or severely debilitated by AIDS.
• Fourteen of our 15 beds are reserved for HUD-defined low-income people and represent 50% of San Francisco’s non-institutional hospice beds.
• Since opening in 1987, Maitri has been the final home for more than 650 people who lived with AIDS.
• We maintain a waiting list of between 6 to 10 people at any given time.
• Maitri is a recognized leader in residential care for people living with AIDS. We serve as a model program. In the past few years, we have hosted health officials from India, The Netherlands, Denmark and The Republic of Togo where similar type facilities are in the planning stages.
• Less than 20% of Maitri's annual operating budget is ear-marked for administrative and fundraising expenses, meaning your gift goes directly toward providing care.
